My First Week With Android

First off, let me start with the fact that I hate those mac versus pc commercials. "PC" stands for "Personal Computer", so unless I'm mistaken, if you buy a mac instead of a computer that runs windows, then your "PC" is a mac. So on one hand they are saying PC's are bad while trying to get you to buy one. Morons. Not too mention, even if they just mean all hardware besides them, I can run linux, or any other non windows OS and they are lumping me in with m$ users.

That being said, I love my new T-Mobile G1. The android interface is easy to use, and since I'm already a Google advocate, the android operting system is perfect for me. I use gmail, google calendar, reader, docs, and any other thing Google can throw my way. Gmail, Calendar, and your contacts work seemlessly with the G1. The app store is easy to navigate, and easy to install applications (although, I'm interested in seeing how easy the apps that cost money are going to be). I don't think there is any doubt that Android will be a contender versus the iPhone in the future. Especially with the brand power of Google behind it, and the fact that they GIVE it away to manufacturers, who now can recoup some of the cost of either licensing an OS or haveing programmers write and maintain one. I think they will all jump all over this like Motorola has, recently hiring 350 android developers. There are rumors that Nokia is researching Android as well.

I leave all 2 of you readers with this, the G1 is first Android release. If you want a serious iPhone competitor you may want to wait until the next release of an Android phone comes out. The app store will keep filling up with better and better apps every day. By the time the next release comes out, they will have a very competitive market to Apple's. But if you really want to be the first one with the new "Google Phone", have realistic expectations for a first release of a new operating system on a HTC device.
